Meet Owens
Handsome Owens is a sweet, go-with-the-flow pup ready to play with anyone, anytime. He is brave, happily exploring his surroundings, then settling in to chew a bully stick or enjoy a nap on a warm lap. Enthusiastically follows his people from room to room like a 4-legged shadow. He’s a Border Collie mix, born in late September 2024, currently 36#. He's a very special dog looking for a very special home.

A happy, loving boy, he does not know he has special needs. He has microphthalmia (small eyes), ventrolateral strabismus (lazy eye) and immature cataracts, resulting in low vision. He saw an Opthamologist for the second time in mid-April, who reports his eyes are holding steady. He needs atropine (an ointment) applied twice a week to enlarge one pupil and give him better vision. He will use this until he is around 5 years old. The cost of this ointment is less than $5/mo.

His foster family is teaching him to respond to sounds, which he loves because there are treats and praise involved! He wants to take obedience classes to bond with his new family and learn excellent behaviors as he matures. A physically fenced yard is strongly preferred.

He has medium energy, a match for families that offer a combination of physical exercise and brain games like training or puzzle toys. Experience with herding breeds or intelligent, engaged dogs is preferred. Owens walks nicely on leash, relaxes in his crate, and is learning basic manners. He can live with young kids and cats too. Best in a home with another friendly dog to model good behavior and be his buddy.

Owens rides nicely in the car, happily meets new friends and explores new places. He is curious and social! His theme song is “Best Day of My Life” by the American Authors – check it out! It’s an upbeat, fun tune that will stick with you through the day… just like Owens. He will help his new family have so many Best Days with his joyful approach to life!

APPLY to adopt this very special pup at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

HOABCR provide 3 months worth of his atropine ointment to his new family.

Owens is being fostered in Lake Elmo, MN.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Owens' adoption fee is $200 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines.

All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
